ULB - Solbosch Sport Hall

Ixelles / Belgique

The proposed party in the project took shape from multiple considerations:

  • Promote opportunities for exchanges between the building and its context
  • Develop an architectural identity: reflect in the architecture and expression of the facades, the dynamism of indoor sports activities
  • Promote exchange opportunities within the building and with building E1: fluidity of spaces, clear spatial structures, exchnge opportunities

An environmental approach can not be limited to the choice of technical equipment or simply the use of renewable energy production systems.

On the contrary, it seemed essential to us that from the beginning, the architectural design should seize the ambitions of a sustainable architecture:

  • Reduction of heat and cold needs by passive strategies based on a bioclimatic approach (reinforced insulation, airtightness, heat recovery on extracted air, natural intensive ventilation
  • Optimization of the visual comfort by the correct positioning and the correct dimensioning of the openings in facades and on the roof
  • management of rainwater via a delay of the rain storm rejection but also rainwater for the sanitary facilities of the adjacent building
  • use of sustainable materials
