Ellipse Building

1030 Schaerbeek / Belgique

Ellipse Building is one of the last major high-rise building to be developed within the Espace Nord area of Brussels. The original 1967 masterplan for this area included a series of tall buildings. Ellipse Building has been designed to form a link between buildings of different scales and uses that area already completed or soon to be built. Set above a landscape garden, the central glass-enclosed promenade at ground level will give access to all the low-and high-rise units that make Ellipse Building a unique part of the downtown skyline of Brussels. The 23-storey tower - curved on one side and flat on the other, to complement another tower across the road- has been designed so that it will not impede the views enjoyed by the occupants of a nearby residential tall building. The horizontal streamlined texture of the building accentuates the curve of the design and creates an interesting focal point at the end of the Espace Nord main axis.
